Aurora DSQL Now Meets FedRAMP Moderate in 3 Regions!

Hi, this is Shii-chan! Today I found news that's a bit serious, but genuinely good: Amazon Aurora DSQL is now in scope for FedRAMP Moderate!

What was announced?

This comes from AWS What's New, so it's an announcement/update-style source telling us what's newly available.

The news itself is simple: Amazon Aurora DSQL has been added to the FedRAMP Moderate scope. Here are the regions where it now applies:

• US East (Ohio)
• US East (N. Virginia)
• US West (Oregon)

That means teams can now build applications and run workloads that require FedRAMP Moderate compliance on top of Aurora DSQL.

The story so far

FedRAMP (Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program) is a US government-wide program that standardizes how cloud products and services get security-assessed, authorized, and continuously monitored. It's basically the trust bar that US government agencies, and the organizations that work with them, use when choosing a cloud service.

Until now, Aurora DSQL wasn't part of the FedRAMP Moderate scope, so it simply wasn't an option for workloads that require that authorization level.

What changes

For developers and organizations that need FedRAMP Moderate compliance, Aurora DSQL is now officially on the table as a database choice.

Aurora DSQL is a serverless, distributed SQL database built for active-active high availability and strong consistency across multiple regions, with virtually unlimited scale and zero infrastructure to manage. Now that strength is available to teams working under FedRAMP Moderate requirements too.
