What was announced?

This is from AWS What's New. Amazon Bedrock Managed Knowledge Base now offers user-managed setup (3LO) for its SharePoint, OneDrive, and Confluence data sources.

The story so far

Before this, setting up these data sources meant generating 2LO credentials on the third-party side, which could take a while and wasn't really an option if you didn't have admin-level access to those systems.

What changes

With user-managed setup, you just sign in with your existing SharePoint, OneDrive, or Confluence credentials, and Bedrock handles the authentication for you. Setup takes just a few minutes.

Since you no longer need to loop in IT admins to issue service account credentials, this is great news for teams that want to quickly prototype an AI assistant grounded in SharePoint documents, OneDrive files, or a Confluence wiki.

It's worth noting this doesn't replace the existing service account (2LO) authentication, it's just an additional option. Production workloads can keep using service account authentication as before.
