Amazon Location Service Gets an API Playground: Try All 14 APIs Without Writing Code
Hi, it's Shii-chan! I found some great news for everyone who loves maps, and I'm so excited!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
In AWS What's New, Amazon Location Service announced a new interactive API Playground.
You can try all 14 Places, Routes, and Maps APIs right in your browser without writing code. Real API calls run, and the results are rendered on a map. You can adjust parameters and copy ready-to-use request snippets.
Why it matters
Location APIs cover many areas, such as address search and route calculation, and it's hard to know what each one returns until you run it.
Before, you had to set up an SDK or write test scripts first. With the Playground, you can check the behavior without that setup.
What changes
- If you're evaluating the service, you can see API results on a map without preparation
- Developers can tweak parameters and copy request snippets straight into their apps
The announcement gives these example uses:
- Validating delivery addresses
- Planning multi-stop routes that are safe for trucks
- Visualizing drive-time service areas
- Embedding maps into apps
Dive Deep
The Playground covers these 14 APIs:
- Search and geocoding (Places): Geocode, ReverseGeocode, Autocomplete, Suggest, SearchText, SearchNearby, GetPlace
- Route planning and optimization (Routes): CalculateRoutes, CalculateRouteMatrix, CalculateIsolines, OptimizeWaypoints, SnapToRoads
- Maps: Dynamic Map, GetStaticMap
It is available in these 15 Regions:
- US East (Ohio), US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon)
- Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, Malaysia, Tokyo)
- Canada (Central)
- Europe (Frankfurt, Ireland, London, Spain, Stockholm)
- South America (São Paulo)
To get started, open the API Playground in the AWS Console with your AWS account. See the Developer Guide for details.
Wrap-up
- A new API Playground covers all 14 Places, Routes, and Maps APIs of Amazon Location Service

It's a great fit for anyone evaluating location APIs or quickly validating address search and routing!
