What was announced?

According to AWS's official AWS What's New update, Amazon Quick connectors just got new tool settings plus MCP (Model Context Protocol) sync support.

Amazon Quick is an AI assistant that turns your questions into answers and your answers into actions. Connectors let you bring services like Outlook, Slack, Salesforce, and Jira, along with your own MCP servers, directly into workflows across chat, agents, apps, flows, and deep research.

This announcement adds two new admin-facing controls around connectors:

  • Connector owners and admins can now selectively enable or disable individual tools within a connector
  • You can now set, per tool, whether it requires explicit consent before it runs, or leave that choice to the end user

On top of that, a new "MCP sync" feature automatically keeps connectors current as external MCP servers add new tools, update descriptions, or evolve their capabilities.

The story so far

Until now, Amazon Quick already let you pull in tools from external services and MCP servers through connectors, but there wasn't a fine-grained way to selectively restrict individual tools within a connector, or to set different consent requirements per tool. There also wasn't an explicit mechanism, like the one announced here, for keeping a connector in sync as the underlying MCP server's tool set evolved.

What changes

Admins and connector owners can now expose only the tools they've approved to end users. For example, you could let read-only tools run freely while requiring explicit consent for anything that writes or sends data.

For security teams, this reduces the risk of a tool being used unintentionally. For end users, it makes clear exactly which actions require their consent, so they can use connector-powered workflows with more confidence.

MCP sync also means that when the team running an external MCP server adds or updates tools, Quick's connector picks up the latest tool list and descriptions automatically, without manual reconfiguration on the Quick side. That's a small but welcome improvement for anyone running their own MCP servers.
