What was announced?

According to AWS's What's New, Amazon Quick's custom permissions now include deny by default, a governance setting that automatically restricts new AI capabilities before they ever reach users.

The story so far

Until now, new AI capabilities were available to all users as soon as they were released. That meant administrators had to react after the fact, checking each new capability against internal policy once it was already live.

What changes

With deny by default, administrators restrict the AI capability category in a custom permissions profile and assign it to users, roles, or the entire account. Quick then automatically denies any new AI capability at launch for those users.

Here are the key points:

  • Restricting a category also restricts the existing capabilities already in it
  • Administrators explicitly allow each capability once it's ready
  • The restriction applies only to the scope of the profile you configure
