Amazon SES's VDM Now Shows Per-Tenant Deliverability at a Glance!
Hi everyone, it's me, Shiichan! I found a nice update from AWS What's New for anyone running Amazon SES, so let's dive in.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
This is from AWS What's New. Amazon SES's Virtual Deliverability Manager (VDM) now supports tenant-level deliverability insights. SES has a tenant management feature that lets you isolate email sending across customers, business units, or applications, and now you can view deliverability for each of those isolated tenants individually.
The story so far
Until now, VDM only offered metrics at the account, ISP, sending identity, and configuration set levels. Even if you were using tenant management to send email for multiple customers or apps from a single SES account, there was no way to break down deliverability by tenant. You could see the overall numbers, but not tell whether a problem was coming from one specific tenant or something else entirely.
What changes
Customers using tenant management with VDM enabled can now monitor deliverability per tenant. The VDM dashboard has a new Tenants view showing, for each tenant:
- Send volume
- Deliveries
- Bounces
- Complaints
- Opens
- Clicks
Drilling into a tenant's detail page breaks these numbers down further by mailbox provider and by the identities and configuration sets tied to that tenant. That means teams running email for multiple customers or apps can now isolate a problem tenant without digging through everyone else's data.
Dive Deep
You can also search and export the messages sent by a specific tenant. For anyone who wants to pull this data programmatically, the BatchGetMetricData API now has a new TENANT_NAME dimension so you can query tenant-level metrics directly. This is available in every AWS Region where SES itself is available.
Wrap-up
- Amazon SES's VDM now supports tenant-level deliverability monitoring.
- Metrics that used to be available only at the account, ISP, identity, or config-set level can now be viewed per tenant.
- The new Tenants view in the VDM dashboard covers everything from send volume to clicks.
- The BatchGetMetricData API's new
TENANT_NAMEdimension makes this available programmatically too. - Great news for teams running email for multiple customers, business units, or apps out of one SES account.
