AWS Backup Adds Cross-Account Management and Backup in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud

Hi, it's Shii-chan!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

Today's news is an AWS Backup update. If you want to manage backups across an organization, take a look!

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, AWS Backup now supports three things in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (Germany) Region:

  • Cross-account management
  • Cross-account backup
  • Delegated administrators

Using AWS Organizations, you can centrally manage, monitor, and copy backups across the accounts in your organization.

Why it matters

If your organization runs many accounts in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud, organization-level backup operations matter. Now the Organizations-based approach is available in this Region too.

What changes

Here is what each capability lets you do:

  • Cross-account management: deploy organization-wide backup policies from your AWS Organizations management account or a delegated administrator account, and monitor backup, copy, and restore jobs across all accounts from one place
  • Cross-account backup: copy recovery points to a backup vault in another account in your organization, which adds protection against accidental or malicious deletion in the source account
  • Delegated administrators: register a member account as a delegated administrator so your teams can manage backups without needing access to your management account

Dive Deep

There is no additional charge for these capabilities. Standard AWS Backup pricing applies.

To get started, open the AWS Backup console. The AWS Backup documentation has more details.

Wrap-up

  • Cross-account management, backup, and delegated administrators in European Sovereign Cloud (Germany)
  • Deploy organization-wide policies and monitor jobs in one place
  • Copy to another account's vault to guard against accidental or malicious deletion
  • No additional charge

This is a good fit if you run backups across an organization in the sovereign cloud!
