I found some great news about AWS cost management today, so let me share it with you!

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, AWS Billing and Cost Management (BCM) Dashboards now include "Managed Dashboards." These are preconfigured, read-only dashboards that show up right in your dashboard list, already populated with your account's data.

The story so far

Until now, visualizing costs in BCM Dashboards meant building a dashboard from scratch — picking which services to show, arranging widgets, and figuring out how to display commitment utilization yourself. That initial setup took real effort.

What changes

You no longer need to build a dashboard from zero. You can open the console and immediately see cost trends and commitment utilization. That's great for teams just starting their FinOps journey, and it also gives teams a standardized baseline for cost analysis across multiple accounts.

Dive Deep

There are five curated dashboards available:

  • Cost Overview & Trends — tracks spending patterns across services, accounts, and regions over 12 months, with forward-looking forecasts
  • Compute — shows Compute service spend patterns alongside commitment coverage and utilization metrics in a single view
  • Database — applies the same approach to Database service spend and commitment status
  • Reservations — shows how well your purchased reservations are performing across all eligible services
  • Savings Plans — quantifies gaps and underutilization in monetary terms

All of them are read-only and maintained by AWS. But they're not just for viewing — you can duplicate any dashboard to create a fully editable custom copy, add individual widgets to your existing dashboards, and export the contents as PDF or CSV.

Managed Dashboards are available in all commercial AWS Regions at no additional cost. To get started, just open Dashboards in the AWS Billing and Cost Management console.
