Spin up in 15 minutes, free for 8 hours! AWS Builder Center now offers sandbox environments!

Hi, it's Shiichan! Today I found news I really want to share with everyone who's been wanting to get started with AWS.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS's What's New, you can now request a free, time-limited sandbox environment directly from eligible AWS Builder Center workshops. You no longer need your own AWS account or a credit card to complete them.

The story so far

Until now, Builder Center workshops basically required your own AWS account to complete. Even if you just wanted to follow along with a workshop's steps, you had to set up an account and register a credit card, and some people worried about getting charged unexpectedly. That was a real hurdle, especially for people just starting out with AWS.

What changes

Builders can now safely deploy resources, write code, and experiment inside a pre-provisioned AWS account. Since there's no account setup hassle and no risk of surprise charges, this makes it a great option for anyone at any skill level who wants hands-on AWS experience.

Dive Deep

Here's what the free sandbox environment looks like:

  • You get 8 hours of access from activation, with automatic cleanup afterward
  • You can request a sandbox once per week (resetting every Sunday)
  • Most environments are ready within 15 minutes
  • Sandboxes are available for select workshops at launch, with more being enabled over time

AWS itself notes that "free sandbox environments are ideal for builders who want to gain practical AWS experience without setting up an account." If you want to try it, head to the Workshops section on AWS Builder Center.

Wrap-up

  • AWS Builder Center workshops now let you request a free, time-limited sandbox environment directly
  • No personal AWS account or credit card required
  • 8 hours of access per activation, one request per week, most ready within 15 minutes
  • Available for select workshops at launch, with more coming over time

This is a great update for anyone getting started with AWS, or for builders who just want to try a workshop quickly without the account management overhead!
