Update all Agent Toolkit skills with one AWS CLI command!
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Keeping your coding agent's skills up to date just got easier.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New announced two new capabilities in the AWS CLI commands for the Agent Toolkit for AWS that make it easier to keep agent skills up to date.
The story so far
Previously, you had to check and update each skill individually.
What changes
These two commands let you check and update in bulk:
aws agent-toolkit check-skill-updates
aws agent-toolkit update-skill --all
- check-skill-updates: compares all installed skills against the latest versions in the registry
- update-skill --all: updates every outdated skill in a single command
This is especially useful for teams that have installed many skills across serverless, storage, networking, analytics, and other domains, and want their coding agents to always work with the latest guidance.
Dive Deep
The Agent Toolkit for AWS consists of three parts:
- AWS MCP Server: a secure, auditable agent interface to 15,000+ AWS APIs
- Agent skills: expert guidance for agents across storage, networking, analytics, and more
- Plugins: bundle the MCP server and curated sets of skills into a single install
The AWS CLI already lets you install, search, and configure the AWS MCP Server and skills across Kiro, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other popular coding agents. These two commands extend that set.
Wrap-up
- check-skill-updates shows which installed skills have updates
- update-skill --all updates outdated skills in one command
- The Agent Toolkit is made of the MCP Server, skills, and plugins
This is for anyone using coding agents with several AWS skills installed!
