What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, AWS Config now supports 60 additional AWS resource types, spanning services including Amazon Bedrock, Amazon EC2, Amazon SageMaker, and AWS Organizations.

Here are some of the newly supported resource types:

  • AWS::AppSync::ChannelNamespace
  • AWS::EC2::RouteServer
  • AWS::Organizations::Policy
  • AWS::Bedrock::EnforcedGuardrailConfiguration
  • AWS::EKS::PodIdentityAssociation
  • AWS::RDS::DBProxy
  • AWS::S3Vectors::Index
  • AWS::SageMaker::Algorithm
  • AWS::BedrockAgentCore::Policy
  • AWS::IoT::TopicRuleDestination

Why it matters

AWS Config continuously records and evaluates the configuration of resources in your account. The more resource types it supports, the more complete a picture you get of your environment. This batch of additions is especially notable because it covers newer AI and ML services like Bedrock, SageMaker, and S3 Vectors — great news if your team is starting to run these in production.

What changes

If you already have recording enabled for all resource types, AWS Config will automatically start tracking these 60 new resource types — no extra setup required.

The newly supported types also work with Config rules and Config aggregators, so you can fold them into your compliance checks and cross-account aggregation right away. They're supported in every AWS Region where the underlying resources are available.
