According to AWS What's New, AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS) now recovers workloads already running on AWS even faster. For source servers on Amazon EC2, DRS can skip preparation steps those workloads no longer need, cutting recovery time by up to 65% for Windows and up to 40% for Linux.
Why it matters
During a disaster or a drill, every minute counts. Workloads already running on AWS come with AWS-compatible drivers and configuration built in, so DRS can launch them with fewer steps — that's the key idea here. Networking, drivers, and licensing are still applied automatically, so recovery stays just as hands-off while getting faster.
What changes
You can turn faster recovery on or off across your whole account, or for individual servers, and change the setting whenever your needs change. That means bringing applications back online sooner during a recovery or drill, which adds a lot of peace of mind for when it really counts.
