Pay and Book Without Leaving Your Messages! AWS End User Messaging's RCS Gets Rich!

Hey there, it's Shii-chan! Today I found a story that makes your phone's messages a whole lot smarter.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, AWS End User Messaging now supports rich media and interactive messaging for RCS. With the new SendRcsMessage API, you can send rich cards, carousels, images, videos, and tappable suggestion buttons, and it works across all 22 supported countries.

The story so far

Until now, messages were often a one-way street of plain text. To let someone confirm a booking or browse a catalog, you had to send them off to another app or site.

What changes

Now recipients can confirm an appointment, browse a product catalog, complete a payment in a webview, share their location, or even chat with an AI agent, all without leaving their messaging app. RCS becomes the interface layer that connects your backend, your data, and your AI straight into your conversation with them.

Dive Deep

This release brings four RCS message types (text, files, rich cards, and carousels). You can mix them with any of six actions (replies, URLs, webviews, phone calls, maps, and calendar events). For recipients without RCS, each message supports a configurable SMS or MMS fallback.

Pricing gets an update too: 21 countries get RCS Conversation pricing, one flat rate for unlimited messages within a 24-hour session, so you can build back-and-forth workflows without per-message cost pressure. Want the details? Take a peek at the sending rich RCS messages guide. RCS messaging is available in every AWS Region where AWS End User Messaging is available.

Wrap-up

  • The new SendRcsMessage API sends rich cards, carousels, images, videos, and buttons
  • Four message types combine with six actions, plus SMS/MMS fallback
  • Flat-rate RCS Conversation pricing per 24-hour session lands in 21 countries
  • Available in 22 countries and every Region where AWS End User Messaging runs

This one's for developers who want to extend customer conversations beyond the app!
