AWS Marketplace notifications can now be routed by category!
Hey friends, it's Shii! Today I found an update for AWS Marketplace partners, so let me share it right away. It looks small at first glance, but it actually fixes a pretty common annoyance.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
According to AWS What's New, AWS Marketplace now supports category-based notification settings and multi-channel delivery. Partners selling products on AWS Marketplace can now configure who receives each notification category and how it gets delivered.
The story so far
Until now, AWS Marketplace notifications could only be delivered to an account's root email address or a custom email alias. There was no way to choose notification categories or route them to the teams responsible for handling them.
That meant notifications about payments and notifications about product listings all landed in the same inbox, and information that really needed to reach a specific team could easily get lost.
What changes
With this update, partners can now pick a recipient and a delivery method for each notification category. For example, you could route payment-related notifications to your finance team and product listing notifications to your engineering team, splitting things up based on content.
When information reaches the right team directly, you're a lot less likely to miss something or have an important notification buried in the root inbox.
Dive Deep
There are four notification categories available.
- Product listings notifications — open product tasks, recurring scan findings for AMI and container products, and Vendor Insights security profile snapshots for SaaS products
- Offers and agreements notifications — private offers, reseller activity, professional services requests, agreement starts and cancellations, cancellation requests, and agreement creation failures
- Payments and disbursements notifications — payment requests, billing adjustments, invoice submission outcomes, payment failures, and disbursement issues
- Account management notifications — business and bank account verification actions, approvals, expirations, and rejections
You can also choose the delivery method. By default, notifications go to the account's root email address, but you can add extra email addresses and distribution lists. On top of that, you can now receive notifications through the AWS Console mobile app and through Amazon Q Developer in Slack and Microsoft Teams.
Setup happens through the AWS User Notifications console: you first enable managed notifications, then pick recipients and delivery channels for each category. This feature is available in every AWS Commercial Region where AWS Marketplace is available.
Wrap-up
- Notifications are now split into four categories: product listings, offers/agreements, payments, and account management
- You can set dedicated contacts and distribution lists per category
- Besides email, you can receive notifications through the AWS Console mobile app or Amazon Q Developer (Slack and Teams)
- Setup is done through the AWS User Notifications console
If you're a partner selling on AWS Marketplace, especially if different teams handle different kinds of notifications internally, this is worth checking out!
