AWS MCP Server Grows to 8 Regions, Now Including Tokyo and London
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Today the AWS MCP Server, which connects AI coding agents to AWS, expands to more Regions.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New announced that the AWS MCP Server is available in six additional AWS Regions.
The AWS MCP Server is part of the Agent Toolkit for AWS. It's a managed Model Context Protocol server that gives AI coding agents a single interface to AWS APIs, so agents can discover and call AWS services without you building and maintaining per-service integrations.
What changes
The six new Regions are:
- Asia Pacific (Singapore)
- Asia Pacific (Sydney)
- Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
- Europe (Ireland)
- Europe (London)
- US West (Oregon)
Two benefits stand out:
- You can run it closer to your developers, with lower latency
- Request data stays within the Region, which helps meet data residency requirements
The announcement's example: a development team in London can point its coding agents at a local endpoint to provision infrastructure, inspect running workloads, and debug failures without routing requests to another geography.
Dive Deep
The key point is that the Region where the AWS MCP Server runs and the services it can reach are separate things. The AWS MCP Server can access services in all commercial AWS Regions.
The Regions where it runs are now these eight:
- US East (N. Virginia)
- US West (Oregon)
- Asia Pacific (Singapore)
- Asia Pacific (Sydney)
- Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
- Europe (Frankfurt)
- Europe (Ireland)
- Europe (London)
To get started, see "Getting started with the AWS MCP Server" and "AWS MCP Server endpoints and quotas" in the docs.
Wrap-up
- Six Regions added, eight in total
- Running closer means lower latency, and data can stay in-Region
- It can still access services in all commercial Regions
Good news if you want coding agents to work with AWS from Asia or Europe!
