AWS reshuffles service availability: Kendra and Q Business head to maintenance mode!
Hey everyone, it's me, Shii-chan! Today isn't a shiny new-feature launch — it's an important bit of housekeeping. If you use any of these services, you'll want to check this one.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
On AWS What's New, AWS shared availability changes for a bunch of AWS services and features (posted June 30, 2026). The changes fall into three groups, and each one is handled differently.
- Services moving to maintenance
- Services entering sunset (end of service planned)
- Services that have reached end of support
The story so far
Until now, you could sign up for all of these as a new customer without a second thought. This time AWS tidied up its product lifecycle and laid out, in one place, how long you can still start and when things wind down. That is why the impact differs for existing users versus people just getting started.
What changes
The biggest group is maintenance mode. Starting July 30, 2026, new customers can no longer access these (except AWS IoT Device Defender – Detect, which cuts off August 31, 2026). Existing users can keep going, and AWS will continue to operate and support them, so nothing shuts off overnight.
The list includes Amazon Kendra, Amazon Q Business, Amazon Cognito Sync, AWS Directory Service Simple AD, and Amazon Bedrock Agents (launched November 2023, now called Amazon Bedrock Agents Classic). SageMaker AI features like A2I, Clarify, Debugger, GeoSpatial, Ground Truth, Model Monitor, Role Manager, and Studio Lab are in this group too.
The sunset group comes with announced end dates: Amazon WorkSpaces – PCoIP, Amazon WorkSpaces – Pool, AWS Managed Services (AMS) Advanced, AWS re:Post Private, and SageMaker AI Profiler. The message here is to start planning your migration early.
Finally, end of support is already done: Amazon Chime SDK Carrier Voice Focus and SageMaker AI Ground Truth Plus are no longer available as of June 30, 2026.
Dive Deep
The key is telling the three tiers apart. Maintenance means existing customers stay while new sign-ups stop; sunset means an end date is set, so it is time to plan your move; and end of support means it is already gone. No need to panic, but do not ignore it either.
AWS has prepared migration guides for affected customers, and its support teams are ready to help. The full list and timelines live on the AWS Product Lifecycle Page, and you can subscribe to the RSS feed to follow future updates.
Wrap-up
- AWS announced availability changes in three groups (maintenance / sunset / end of support)
- Maintenance items stop new sign-ups on July 30, 2026; existing use continues (Detect: August 31, 2026)
- Sunset items have end dates; end-of-support items are already gone
- Broad coverage including Kendra, Q Business, Bedrock Agents Classic, and various SageMaker AI features
If your architecture leans on any of these AWS services, checking your migration options now will keep you comfortable later.
