What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, AWS Transform is now in scope for FedRAMP Class C (formerly the Moderate baseline) in the US East (Ohio) Region. That means teams building applications or running workloads that must meet FedRAMP Class C requirements can now use AWS Transform for their projects.

AWS Transform is described as an agentic migration and modernization service, designed to compress enterprise timelines from years to months. It's built to handle everything from large-scale infrastructure migrations to continuous tech debt reduction, without the manual handoffs and lost context that commonly stall these programs.

The story so far

FedRAMP (the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program) is a US government-wide program that standardizes how cloud products and services get security-assessed, authorized, and continuously monitored. Until now, AWS Transform wasn't in FedRAMP's scope, so teams with FedRAMP Class C compliance requirements couldn't rely on it for migration or modernization work.

What changes

With this scope expansion, organizations that must meet FedRAMP Class C requirements can now use AWS Transform — as long as they're working in the US East (Ohio) Region. In practice, that means:

  • Large-scale infrastructure migration projects can now use AWS Transform
  • Continuous tech debt reduction work is also covered
  • Teams that previously couldn't consider AWS Transform due to compliance constraints now have it as an option

If you work at (or with) a government agency handling modernization in a regulated environment, this is probably news you've been waiting for.
