AWS Well-Architected Agent is in preview, with IaC fixes included!

Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! An AI agent has arrived to help improve your AWS architecture!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

AWS What's New announced the preview of AWS Well-Architected Agent, an AI-powered service that is the next-gen evolution of AWS Trusted Advisor and the AWS Well-Architected Tool.

The AWS Blog covers the same launch in more detail, and I cover that in another article.

The story so far

Earlier tools focused on checks and diagnostics. The agent goes further by delivering contextualized recommendations prioritized by your business goals.

What changes

The agent analyzes and optimizes AWS infrastructure across cost, security, performance, and reliability.

  • It automatically correlates key metrics and application topology against Well-Architected best practices
  • It analyzes Terraform, CDK, and CloudFormation templates to deliver automation-ready fixes
  • Recommendations are prioritized by impact and effort at the resource, application, and architecture levels

Dive Deep

For example, a team prioritizing reliability can receive a recommendation to add multi-AZ failover to a critical database. It comes with an SSM runbook that automates the change and a cross-pillar analysis of how it affects cost and performance before you commit.

Where applicable, recommendations come with:

  • SSM runbooks
  • Prescriptive CLI scripts
  • Guided console walkthroughs

It can also run automated reviews of Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK templates, identify gaps, and return the IaC code changes needed to align with Well-Architected best practices.

Wrap-up

  • Analyzes cost, security, performance, and reliability against your business goals
  • Recommendations are prioritized by impact and effort
