Claude on Bedrock Expands to India, South Korea, and Singapore with In-Country Inference!
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! There's good news for anyone who wanted to use Claude in Asian Regions!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New announced that Anthropic's Claude models on Amazon Bedrock are expanding to India, South Korea, and Singapore.
Here's what's available in each country:
- India: Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5, and Claude Haiku 4.5
- South Korea: Claude Opus 5 and Claude Sonnet 5
- Singapore: Claude Sonnet 5
Why it matters
Many customers, including those in financial services, healthcare, and the public sector, need to process data within a specific geography. With this expansion, they can use these models at scale while keeping inference in-country!
What changes
Teams that put off adopting Claude because of data residency requirements can now consider an in-country setup.
The announcement says Amazon Bedrock processes inference requests and data within the Region you call, and processing never leaves that Region.
Dive Deep
Delivery differs a bit by location, so here's the breakdown:
- India: geographic cross-Region inference across the Mumbai and Hyderabad Regions. You can process data in India Regions, and the already supported global cross-Region inference is still available
- South Korea: in-region inference on the bedrock-runtime endpoint in the Seoul (ap-northeast-2) Region
- Singapore: in-region inference on the bedrock-runtime endpoint in ap-southeast-1
For the latest availability, see "Regional availability by models" in the Amazon Bedrock User Guide.
Wrap-up
- India gets Opus 5, Sonnet 5, and Haiku 4.5; South Korea gets Opus 5 and Sonnet 5; Singapore gets Sonnet 5
- India uses geographic cross-Region inference across Mumbai and Hyderabad
- South Korea and Singapore use in-region inference on their bedrock-runtime endpoints
- Inference and data stay in the Region you call
This is great news if you work in finance, healthcare, or the public sector and need data to stay in-country!
