Claude Sonnet 5.5 is now available on AWS GovCloud (US)
Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! This is a follow-up to the last news, and it's about GovCloud.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New announced that AWS GovCloud (US) now offers Claude Sonnet 5.5. It's described as a smarter, more efficient Sonnet and a step up from Sonnet 5, a natural upgrade for teams already building on Sonnet.
Why it matters
GovCloud (US) is for government and other highly regulated environments. The point of this news is that the latest Sonnet is now available there too.
What changes
It's stronger in two areas:
- Coding: completing well-scoped tasks as part of a larger coding strategy, such as building and fixing features in the same session or verifying output against requirements
- Knowledge work: producing ready-to-share output, from 1-pagers, diagrams, and summary slides to document edits and spreadsheet cleanup
It's described as costing less per task for most work at faster speed.
Dive Deep
In GovCloud (US), you use it through Amazon Bedrock. Bedrock keeps your data within AWS infrastructure with regional data residency and offers access through a unified service with AWS-managed features like Guardrails and Knowledge Bases.
Note that Claude Platform on AWS, mentioned in the announcement for standard regions, isn't mentioned in this one. Check the regional availability in the Amazon Bedrock documentation for details.
Wrap-up
- Claude Sonnet 5.5 is available in GovCloud (US)
- Stronger coding and knowledge work, with better cost and speed
- Use it through Amazon Bedrock with Guardrails and Knowledge Bases
Good news for anyone who wants to use Claude in regulated environments!
