AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New announced that AWS Lambda MicroVMs is now available in 4 additional Regions, for a total of 14.
The new Regions are:
- Asia Pacific (Hong Kong)
- Asia Pacific (Malaysia)
- Asia Pacific (Thailand)
- Europe (Spain)
What changes
You can run closer to your end users, which helps meet latency and data residency requirements.
Dive Deep
Lambda MicroVMs is a serverless compute primitive for executing user or AI generated code. It offers:
- VM-level isolation
- Near-instant launch and resume
- State preservation
Each user or job gets its own isolated environment without you managing virtualization infrastructure. Example uses are AI coding assistants, interactive development environments, and vulnerability scanners.
To get started:
- Create a MicroVM image from your Dockerfile
- Launch MicroVMs from that image
- Each gets a dedicated HTTPS URL supporting protocols such as HTTP/2, gRPC, and WebSockets
You can use it through the Lambda console, CloudFormation, CDK, or agentic development tools with the Agent Toolkit for AWS.
Wrap-up
- Lambda MicroVMs adds 4 Regions, 14 in total
- VM-level isolation, fast launch and resume, and state retention
- Build an image from a Dockerfile, then launch MicroVMs
This one is for developers who need to run AI generated code safely!
