Time Series Collections Arrive in Next-Gen Amazon OpenSearch Serverless

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

Here's good news for anyone piling up logs and metrics!

What was announced?

AWS announced support for time series collections on the next generation of Amazon OpenSearch Serverless.

You can ingest, store, and analyze logs, metrics, traces, and event data without provisioning or managing clusters.

What changes

  • Ingest spikes are absorbed automatically
  • Recent data stays fast to query
  • Months or years of history stay searchable at low cost, all in the same collection

Dive Deep

Time series collections add a lower-cost warm storage tier in addition to the existing hot tier, so you can retain infrequently accessed data without paying hot storage prices. You choose how long data stays hot before moving to warm.

Scale and features:

  • Up to 100 TB of hot storage per collection
  • Handles high-volume observability workloads such as application monitoring, security analytics, and IoT telemetry
  • Alerting and anomaly detection are also now available, so you get notified about issues and can spot unusual patterns without separate tooling

It's available today in all AWS Regions where OpenSearch Serverless is available. See the OpenSearch Serverless pricing page for warm storage costs, and the feature page, launch blog, and documentation for more.

Wrap-up

  • Time series collections arrive on next-gen OpenSearch Serverless
  • A lower-cost warm tier is added, with a configurable hot period
  • Up to 100 TB hot, plus alerting and anomaly detection

This is for anyone who wants lower cost and less work for log and observability platforms!
