AWS App Scaffolding Just Got Faster! Nx Plugin for AWS Hits v1.0
Hi, it's me, Shiichan! Today's story from AWS What's New is great news if you build apps together with AI assistants.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New announced version 1.0 of the Nx Plugin for AWS, an open source toolkit for scaffolding full-stack applications on AWS. It extends Nx, a language-agnostic build system for monorepos, with generators that each build one part of your application on request — along with the infrastructure to run it.
Why it matters
AI assistants can already stand up an app on AWS in minutes, but getting security, observability, and type-safety right in a single pass is a lot harder. The Nx Plugin for AWS exists to solve exactly that problem — the "AI built it fast, but the important parts are missing" gap.
What changes
The generators cover AI agents and Model Context Protocol servers running on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, plus APIs, websites, and databases, all built on proven open source frameworks in TypeScript and Python. Each one produces infrastructure that includes:
- Infrastructure as AWS CDK constructs or Terraform modules
- AWS WAF protection built in
- Access logging to Amazon CloudWatch
- AWS X-Ray tracing enabled
There's also a connection generator that wires projects together with type-safe clients, so a breaking API change shows up as a build error on your machine instead of a failed request in production.
Dive Deep
Every generator produces the same result each time it runs, which makes it a dependable foundation for an AI assistant to build on. The generated code belongs to you, with no runtime dependency on the plugin itself, and Nx migrations can bring later improvements even into workspaces you've already customized.
The plugin is released under the Apache 2.0 license at no additional charge — you only pay for the AWS resources your app actually uses.
Wrap-up
- The Nx Plugin for AWS, which extends the Nx monorepo build system, has reached v1.0
- Generators scaffold AI agents, MCP servers, APIs, websites, and databases — infrastructure included
- Generated infrastructure ships with AWS WAF, CloudWatch access logging, and X-Ray tracing by default
- Type-safe client wiring catches breaking API changes as build errors
- Apache 2.0 licensed and free to use — a solid pick for engineers building AWS apps with AI assistants
