Here's some great news for anyone who wants to get into AI/ML. Getting started with Amazon SageMaker Studio just got a lot simpler!

What was announced?

This comes from the AWS What's New feed. New customers can now sign up with their Google, GitHub, or Apple credentials and land inside a fully configured SageMaker Studio environment. No traditional AWS account setup and no hunting around the console.

The story so far

Say you found a model on Hugging Face or an AWS product page. Before you could start working, you had to:

  • Create an AWS account (a multi-step process)
  • Provide a credit card
  • Find SageMaker AI in the console
  • Configure an environment
  • Set up IAM permissions

Earlier launches already cut environment setup to about 20 seconds, pre-configured model customization permissions, and added deep links from Hugging Face and AWS product pages that open Studio with a model pre-loaded. The new sign-in options are the next step.

What changes

You sign up with an identity you already have and get going right away.

  • You get AWS Free Tier credits, and in most cases no credit card is required
  • You arrive in a ready-to-use Studio where you can fine-tune, evaluate, and deploy foundation models immediately
  • You can invite team members by email
  • When you outgrow the free credits, you can upgrade to a paid plan

This opens the door for individual developers who just want to try a model, and for anyone who got stuck at account creation.

Dive Deep

Here are the details on teamwork:

  • Invited collaborators sign in with their own email credentials
  • They can access the shared Studio environment, including models, notebooks, and endpoints
  • No IAM users or permissions to configure
  • On a paid plan, you can set a spend limit to stay within budget

There's a GPU perk too. Verified customers get default access to the following instances, with no quota increase request needed:

  • G5
  • G6
  • G6e
  • G4dn

They work for endpoints, training jobs, and notebooks.

There are two ways to get started:

  • On a supported model's page on Hugging Face, choose "Customize and Deploy on SageMaker AI" or "Deploy on SageMaker AI"
  • Click Get Started on the SageMaker Studio page

It's available in all AWS Commercial Regions where Amazon SageMaker Studio is supported.
