Grok 4.6 Just Landed in AWS GovCloud (US) via Amazon Bedrock!
Hi, it's Shiichan! Today I've got news for anyone running workloads in AWS GovCloud (US): a frontier AI model just landed there too!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
This comes from AWS What's New: Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud (US) now supports SpaceXAI's Grok 4.6. Grok 4.6 is SpaceXAI's latest flagship model, built for coding, agentic tasks, and knowledge work. It's designed for long-running agents and for ambitious interactive and visual work.
The story so far
Grok 4.6 was already available on Amazon Bedrock, but it wasn't available in AWS GovCloud (US) — a Region built for government agencies and regulated industries with especially strict security and compliance requirements. New models often take longer to reach GovCloud than standard commercial Regions, so teams there had to wait for access to the latest frontier models.
What changes
With this update, developers and teams working in AWS GovCloud (US) can now access Grok 4.6 directly through Amazon Bedrock. That means coding assistance, autonomous agents, and knowledge-work tasks that Grok 4.6 is built for are now available without leaving a compliance-friendly environment.
Dive Deep
Here are the specifics from the announcement:
- Context window: 500k tokens
- Reasoning effort: configurable across four levels — low, medium, high, and xhigh
- Supported APIs: Responses API, Chat Completions API, and Converse API
- Runtime endpoint: the bedrock-runtime endpoint
- Cross-Region inference: requests can be routed across both AWS GovCloud (US) Regions for scale
- bedrock-mantle endpoint: also available in AWS GovCloud (US-East)
If you want to get started, check out the Grok 4.6 model card in the Amazon Bedrock User Guide.
