WorkSpaces for AI Agents Now Offers Linux and Windows 11 Desktops!
Hello, it's Shii-chan! The workplaces for AI agents just got more options, and I'm so excited!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
According to AWS What's New, WorkSpaces for AI agents now supports Linux and Windows 11 cloud desktops.
The story so far
Until now, agent desktops were Windows Server only. If an agent's apps or workflows expected a different OS, it was probably hard to fit them in.
What changes
You can now pick the OS each agent's workflow and applications need. Agents can work in the same environments your workforce already uses, with no re-platforming, per the announcement.
- Linux: agents get full root access to the OS, which suits builds, tests, and scripts
- Windows 11: agents can work in the enterprise applications your teams use every day
- Windows Server: still available
Dive Deep
The two new OSs have the same security and governance controls as Windows Server desktops:
- Network isolation
- IAM-based access
- The compliance boundaries your organization already has
The announcement doesn't list pricing, Regions, quotas, or instance sizes. See the agent-access page in the AWS developer guide to get started!
Wrap-up

- Linux gives full root access for build and test automation
- Windows 11 fits agents that use enterprise apps
- Security and governance controls match Windows Server
This is for companies that want agents to handle developer tasks or business app work!
