The story so far
Until now, Voice Mode only ran on Haiku. Haiku is great for quick, responsive answers, but it wasn't really built for digging deep into complex problems. So Voice Mode worked well for quick questions, but it may have felt limited when you wanted to talk through something genuinely hard.
With this update, you can now use Opus, which is built for deeper reasoning, or Sonnet, which balances speed and capability, right in voice conversations.
What changes
The biggest change is that voice conversations can now handle problems that require real thinking. Instead of relying on Haiku's speed alone, you can switch to Opus or Sonnet to work through complex issues together. And since you can change models mid-conversation, you can move between quick responses and deeper reasoning depending on what you need.
On top of that, you can now ask Claude by voice to check Gmail, send a Slack message, adjust your calendar, or work on a Canva design, which makes hands-free tasks much more capable. The expanded language support is also great news for users who speak Japanese and other languages beyond English.
