What was announced?

The Cloudflare Blog announced a competition to build the next Git platform for an era of AI agents, along with the open beta of Artifacts. The idea is to rethink core Git concepts like repositories, branches, pull requests, and code review for agents instead of human developers.

What changes

Artifacts is a versioned filesystem that speaks Git and can scale to millions of repositories. On top of it, you can try building a new kind of code hosting for agents.

  • Workers integration: connect repositories through Workers Builds. Pushes to production auto-deploy, and other branches create preview environments. Manage repositories programmatically with Artifacts bindings
  • Event subscriptions: events are published for repository creation, forking, deletion, pushes, clones, and fetches. Use them for CI/CD and code review automation
  • Data jurisdiction: choose U.S. or EU when you create a namespace, and every repository in that namespace follows it
  • Observability: the dashboard shows total operations, pulls, pushes, errors, and error rates per repository

Pricing and availability

Pricing is based on repository operations and the amount of data stored, and billing starts on October 15, 2026. The open beta is available only to customers on the Workers Paid plan.
