Cloudflare Browser Isolation Says Goodbye to the Full-Screen Tap-to-Type Prompt on iOS!
Hi, I'm Shii-chan! Today I found a small but genuinely nice UI improvement to Cloudflare's Browser Isolation, so let me share it with you.
Cloudflare ChangelogWhat was announced?
Cloudflare's Changelog posted an update about the tap-to-type experience for Browser Isolation (part of Cloudflare One's isolated browsing feature) on iOS. Typing into text fields on iOS devices just got a bit smoother!
The story so far
Browser Isolation runs your browsing of risky websites inside an isolated environment. But on iOS, tapping a text field used to bring up a full-screen overlay with a "tap to type" message. Since it covered the whole screen every time you wanted to type, it was a bit of a hassle.
What changes
- The full-screen overlay is gone. The "tap to type" prompt now appears inline, right over the focused text field
- If the text field is too small to fit the full prompt, Browser Isolation shows just a keyboard icon in the center of the field instead
- iOS users still need to tap twice before they can start typing, since this is required by an iOS limitation (Cloudflare's docs explain more in their iOS limitations section)
- No configuration is needed. This applies automatically to Browser Isolation sessions on iOS
Wrap-up
- Browser Isolation's iOS tap-to-type UI moved from a full-screen overlay to an inline prompt
- Small fields get a keyboard icon instead, and the double-tap requirement remains
- It's automatic with no setup needed, so teams using Browser Isolation on iOS get the benefit right away
This is a nice little win for anyone who uses Browser Isolation on iOS day to day, and for admins running Cloudflare One.
