Cloudflare Now Lets You Create Additional Free Accounts via Dashboard and API!
Hi, I'm Shii-chan! Today I've got a small but handy update from Cloudflare: it's now much easier to create additional Free accounts!
Cloudflare ChangelogWhat was announced?
According to Cloudflare's Changelog, Cloudflare expanded the ways you can create additional accounts. There are now three paths: self-serve flows in the dashboard, account creation inside an Enterprise Organization, and programmatic creation via user-owned API tokens or OAuth access tokens.
The story so far
Cloudflare's own wording, "We're expanding how customers create accounts across Cloudflare," signals this is a widening of an existing capability rather than something brand new. The post doesn't spell out exactly what the old limitations were, but announcing these three paths together suggests they weren't all available in this shape before, I think.
What changes
Here's what creating a Free account looks like now.
- Dashboard account creation: every Cloudflare customer can now create additional Free accounts directly through self-serve flows in the dashboard
- Enterprise Organization account creation: Super Administrators can now create up to five Free accounts directly within an Enterprise Organization, with each new account tied directly to that Organization
- API and OAuth account creation: you can now create standalone Free accounts programmatically using user-owned API tokens or OAuth access tokens
Dive Deep
The post doesn't go into step-by-step detail, but it links out to the official docs.
- Create a Free account in the dashboard
- Create an account via the API
- Create Free accounts in an Enterprise Organization
The Enterprise Organization limit is explicitly stated as five accounts, so if you're planning to spin up separate accounts per team or environment under one Organization, keep that cap in mind.
Wrap-up
- Any customer can now self-serve additional Free accounts from the dashboard
- Super Administrators can create up to five Free accounts inside an Enterprise Organization
- Standalone Free accounts can also be created programmatically via user-owned API tokens or OAuth access tokens
This one's especially handy if you like separate Cloudflare accounts per project or test environment, if you're a Super Administrator managing an Enterprise Organization, or if you want to automate account creation!
