Cloudflare DNS Now Warns You at 85% of Your Records Quota!
Hi, it's Shii-chan! Today Cloudflare shipped a small update that will be really nice to have.
Cloudflare ChangelogWhat was announced?
According to the Cloudflare Changelog, the DNS records page in the dashboard now shows a warning once you have used 85% of your DNS records quota.
The warning follows the quota that applies to you:
- If your zone has its own quota: it shows that zone's usage
- If your account uses an account-level DNS records quota: it shows your usage across all zones in the account
The story so far
The announcement doesn't describe the previous behavior, so this part is my reading: it seems you could only find out you were at the limit when you tried to add another record.
What changes
You can notice at 85% instead of at the limit, which gives you time to act.
- Clean up records you no longer use
- Plan a quota increase or a plan change without rushing
With account-level quotas, the warning counts all zones together, so it's easier to see how much room is left overall.
Dive Deep
Here is what the original post tells us:
- The warning appears on the DNS records page in the dashboard
- The threshold is 85% usage (the screenshot in the post shows a warning at 86%)
- The quota shown switches automatically between zone-level and account-level
The post doesn't mention configurable thresholds, API access, or notifications.
Wrap-up
- A warning appears on the DNS records page at 85% quota usage
- It covers the zone quota, or the total across all zones for account-level quotas
- You get time to clean up or raise your quota before hitting the limit
This one is for anyone managing lots of DNS records on Cloudflare!
