What was announced?

According to OpenAI News, ChatGPT for Healthcare has new integrations that connect it to Epic EHR environments and trusted healthcare data sources, making it easier for clinicians to securely access patient context and medical research.

There are two parts to this:

  • EHR integration: connects to Epic environments so patient context can be referenced either inside ChatGPT or directly within EHR workflows
  • Healthcare Public Data plugin: connects to nine official data sources, including ClinicalTrials.gov, CMS Coverage, RxNorm, DailyMed, and PubMed

This means clinicians can ask things like "What has changed since this patient's last visit?" or "Which recent lab results should I review?"

Why it matters

Clinicians spend a lot of their day piecing together information scattered across EHRs, lab results, and the latest medical research. Every minute spent hunting for information is a minute not spent with the patient. This update is aimed at cutting down that search time by bringing trusted sources directly into ChatGPT.
