What was announced?

According to OpenAI News, OpenAI and Oracle are expanding their partnership. They will bring Oracle applications and data into ChatGPT, and use OpenAI models and products to power new Oracle offerings.

The stated aim is to help businesses use AI to run core operations, build better applications, and strengthen security. It builds on existing work across the OpenAI API, ChatGPT Work, and Codex.

Why it matters

Oracle already uses these tools itself: 130,000 active ChatGPT users and more than 95,000 active Codex users. Its recruiting team uses ChatGPT Work for market research, and preparation that took two to four days now takes 15-20 minutes.

What changes

The companies describe an "agent-ready enterprise" where people and AI agents work across business applications in one connected environment, with simpler administration, unified sign-in, and access controlled by each organization's permissions and approvals.

Oracle AI Workspace, which Oracle is developing, brings Oracle applications and data into ChatGPT. Users describe a task, find the relevant information, and complete approved business workflows in one place. For example, a finance team member could investigate costs, review purchasing decisions, and see what remains before month-end close across finance, procurement, and planning applications.

Three new Oracle offerings built with OpenAI:

  • Oracle AI Security Mesh: uses OpenAI cyber models to help customers find and fix vulnerabilities in applications and infrastructure; Oracle manages the testing infrastructure
  • Oracle AI SMB Bundle: combines ChatGPT Business and Codex with Oracle applications and recurring Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) credits for small businesses
  • Oracle App Composer: lets teams build apps with Codex and other AI tools, connect them to approved Oracle data and workflows, and share them across the organization; Oracle manages deployment on OCI, with permissions and access controls built in

On purchasing: U.S. Oracle customers can buy access to the OpenAI API, Codex, and ChatGPT Work through Oracle Marketplace, using existing procurement processes and eligible Oracle Universal Credits.
