AI for Educators Arrives in Brazilian Portuguese, Plus Study Mode for Learning Through Questions!
Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Today I'm covering some education news from OpenAI.
OpenAI NewsWhat was announced?
OpenAI News announced that, for Teachers' Day, the AI for Educators course is now available in Brazilian Portuguese on OpenAI Academy, OpenAI's free learning platform. It's designed for educators in primary, secondary, and higher education, and covers how to use AI to:
- Plan lessons
- Create activities and assessments
- Prepare communications
All of this while preserving educators' pedagogical judgment.
The post also describes a campaign set in a university classroom, which takes a humorous look at the changing relationship between teachers and students and celebrates educators in a world with AI.
What changes
Educators can learn how to use AI in Brazilian Portuguese, which lowers the barrier to getting started.
Dive Deep
Study Mode is a ChatGPT feature that helps you explore a subject step by step, with questions, hints, explanations, and checks for understanding. It was developed with teachers, scientists, and experts in pedagogy, and aims to encourage active participation and reflection on one's own reasoning.
- To turn it on, select Study from the tools menu in ChatGPT
- A student might ask: I'm studying enzymes. Ask me one question at a time, wait for my answer, and help me identify what I need to review
- Teachers can try Study Mode with subjects they know well, checking whether the questions encourage reasoning and whether the explanations suit their class
The post also gives a classroom example. In a lesson on evaporation, students investigate why clothes dry on a clothesline. After exploring with Study Mode, each student writes their own explanation and a question to discuss in class, without referring back to the conversation. The teacher uses those responses to see what to revisit.
