Claude Corps launches! 1,000 fellows bringing AI to communities
Hi everyone, it's Shiichan! Today I found an announcement that feels like AI is jumping right into our neighborhoods, and it got me excited!
Anthropic News
What was announced?
Over on Anthropic's News, they announced Claude Corps, a national fellowship program!
It targets early-career professionals: the plan is to train 1,000 fellows to master Claude and place them with nonprofits. Fellows join a nonprofit full-time and in person for one year.
Anthropic's initial commitment is a whopping $150 million. That's a serious scale!
Why it matters
The benefits of AI tend to reach tech-savvy people and big companies first. Claude Corps tries to bring those benefits to local communities and nonprofits, the places that are often short on hands.
Young people gain career skills in using AI, and nonprofits get AI tools and systems. It's designed so both sides win!
What changes
If you're selected as a fellow, you get generous support:
- $85,000 annual salary plus benefits
- Five hours of ongoing training every week
- Mentor support from CodePath
- Anthropic office hours for technical questions
- A generous Claude token budget
Instead of only handing out AI, Claude Corps grows people who can actually use it and places them on the front lines. That's what makes it interesting!
Dive Deep
Three organizations share the work:
- Anthropic — funding and overall strategy
- CodePath — employer of record, running the fellow programming

The program runs in three cohorts:
- First cohort (100 fellows): starts October 2026, applications close July 17
- Second cohort: January 2027

Over 12 months, at least 400 nonprofits are expected to host fellows.
Eligibility looks like this:
- 18 or older
- Less than two years of full-time work experience

- Comfortable using Claude
- Willing to relocate if needed (support is available)
