$150M Over Three Years! Anthropic Brings Claude to the Genesis Mission
Hi everyone, Shii-chan here! Today I'm sharing a big science announcement from Anthropic's News!
Anthropic NewsWhat was announced?
Anthropic's News published "Building on our commitment to American scientific discovery". Anthropic is committing $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission.
The Genesis Mission is a federal initiative that uses AI to speed up scientific and technological discovery. The funding will make Claude available to more than 15 participating agencies, including:
- NASA
- National Institutes of Health (NIH)
- National Science Foundation (NSF)
It was announced on October 8, 2026, at the Science: A New Golden Age Summit, hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in Washington, DC.
Why it matters
Anthropic first announced its partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Genesis Mission in December, and has since worked with DOE to bring Claude to scientists at the national laboratories. This commitment extends that work to many more agencies.
What changes
Over the next three years, Anthropic plans to:
- Provide Claude, Claude Code, and API credits to several hundred Genesis Mission research projects
- Work closely with agencies and national laboratories on top administration science priorities, specifically fusion energy and quantum computing
- Offer training, onboarding, and technical support to scientists, and help agencies new to the initiative launch their first projects
Dive Deep
The post also lists Anthropic's earlier science efforts:
- Earlier in 2026, it launched Claude Science, an AI workbench bundling the tools and software packages researchers use most
- It opened 10,000 free and discounted Claude seats to academic scientists
- It expanded its AI for Science program, which gives credits to researchers on high-impact projects
- It started a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard, a shared specification that lets AI agents operate laboratory instruments safely
The post does not describe how credits will be allocated or details of individual projects.
Wrap-up
- $150 million over three years for the Genesis Mission
- Claude available to more than 15 agencies, including NASA, NIH, and NSF
- Claude, Claude Code, and API credits for several hundred projects
- Focus on fusion energy and quantum computing
- Training and onboarding support included
This one is for researchers at government agencies and national labs, and anyone following how AI is speeding up science!
