Aurora DSQL Lands in Spain — Now Available in 20 AWS Regions!
Hi, it's Shiichan! I've got news today for anyone running database workloads in Europe!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
According to AWS What's New, Amazon Aurora DSQL is now available for single-Region clusters in the Europe (Spain) Region.
Aurora DSQL bills itself as "the fastest serverless, distributed SQL database," combining active-active high availability with multi-Region strong consistency. It's designed to let you build always-available applications with virtually unlimited scalability, while keeping infrastructure management to a minimum.
The story so far
Aurora DSQL was already available in major Regions across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, but Spain wasn't one of them yet. So anyone running services in or near Spain who wanted to use this database had to pick another European Region, like Frankfurt or Paris, instead.
What changes
With Spain added, Aurora DSQL is now available in a total of 20 AWS Regions:
- US East (N. Virginia)
- US East (Ohio)
- US West (Oregon)
- Canada (Central)
- Canada West (Calgary)
- South America (São Paulo)
- Europe (Frankfurt)
- Europe (Ireland)
- Europe (London)
- Europe (Paris)
- Europe (Spain)
- Europe (Stockholm)
- Asia Pacific (Hong Kong)
- Asia Pacific (Melbourne)
- Asia Pacific (Mumbai)
- Asia Pacific (Osaka)
- Asia Pacific (Seoul)
- Asia Pacific (Singapore)
- Asia Pacific (Sydney)
- Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
Teams running services near Spain can now use Aurora DSQL in a nearby Region, which is a nice win if latency matters to your application.
Dive Deep
This launch covers single-Region cluster usage. You can get started for free with the AWS Free Tier, which lowers the barrier if you're curious. For more details, check the Aurora DSQL product webpage and documentation.
