CloudWatch Log Centralization Expands to GovCloud and 13 More Commercial Regions!
Hi everyone, it's Shiichan! Today's news is that CloudWatch log centralization is now available in more Regions!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS What's New announced that Amazon CloudWatch log centralization is now available in AWS GovCloud (US) and 13 additional commercial Regions.
The story so far
Log centralization copies log data from multiple AWS accounts and Regions into a single destination account. It integrates with AWS Organizations, so you don't need a custom solution to aggregate logs.
Until now, the set of supported Regions was narrower. With this expansion, both the AWS GovCloud (US) partition and the commercial partition can centralize logs across their accounts and Regions.
What changes
Logs from the newly supported Regions can now be monitored in one place. This is good news if your organization has accounts in these Regions, or if you want to gather logs in GovCloud.
Dive Deep
The newly added Regions are:
- Africa (Cape Town)
- Asia Pacific (Hong Kong)
- Asia Pacific (Hyderabad)
- Asia Pacific (Jakarta)
- Asia Pacific (Malaysia)
- Asia Pacific (Melbourne)
- Canada West (Calgary)
- Europe (Milan)
- Europe (Spain)
- Europe (Zurich)
- Israel (Tel Aviv)
- Middle East (Bahrain)
- Middle East (UAE)
- AWS GovCloud (US-East)
- AWS GovCloud (US-West)
For the complete list of supported Regions, see the AWS Region table.
You can scope a centralization rule to:
- Your entire organization
- Specific organizational units (OUs)
- Selected accounts
Copied logs carry enriched system fields, so the context of where each log came from is preserved.
On pricing, one copy of your logs can be centralized for free, and additional copies are charged at $0.05/GB.
To get started, create a centralization rule in the CloudWatch console, with the AWS CLI, or with the AWS SDKs. For more, see Log centralization in the Amazon CloudWatch Logs User Guide.
Wrap-up
- Log centralization is now in AWS GovCloud (US) and 13 more commercial Regions
- Logs from many accounts and Regions are copied into one destination account via AWS Organizations
- Rules can target the whole organization, OUs or selected accounts, and source context is kept
- One copy is free; additional copies cost $0.05/GB
If you run multi-account setups and want log monitoring in a single place, this one is for you!
