Amazon Connect Now Lets You Set Different Concurrency Limits for Tasks and Emails by Complexity!
Hi, it's me, Shii-chan! Today I found a news item from AWS's Amazon Connect Customer that lets contact centers fine-tune their operations more precisely. It might sound like a small detail, but it's a welcome update for the people actually working the floor.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
According to AWS What's New, Amazon Connect Customer now lets you set separate concurrency limits for different workload types within the Task and Email channels. Previously, concurrency settings applied at the channel level, so every contact in a channel was treated the same. Now, managers can classify Task and Email contacts into workload types based on complexity, priority, or business function, and give each type its own concurrency and interruption rules.
The story so far
Until now, Amazon Connect applied concurrency settings uniformly at the channel level. That meant a simple, quick Task and a complex Task requiring careful investigation were both squeezed into the same limit. If you raised the limit to suit lighter Tasks, complex Tasks could pile up and overwhelm an agent. If you lowered it to suit complex Tasks, simple ones ended up processed too slowly. It was a real balancing act.
What changes
With this update, managers can classify Task and Email contacts into distinct workload types. The original announcement gives this example:
- Simple, low-effort Tasks can be handled up to 3 at a time
- Complex, high-attention Tasks are limited to 1 at a time
This lets you control how many contacts each agent handles concurrently, matched to how demanding the work actually is. You can also configure interruption rules between workload types, so you can decide how an agent's current work should be handled when a higher-priority Email comes in. For contact center managers, this is a small but meaningful improvement that lets agent workload match real-world effort.
Dive Deep
These workload-specific capacity limits apply to the Task and Email channels, and are available in all AWS commercial regions and AWS GovCloud (US-West) where Amazon Connect Customer is offered. Configuration details are covered in the Amazon Connect Customer Administrator Guide.
Wrap-up
- Amazon Connect Customer now supports per-workload-type concurrency and interruption rules for Task and Email channels
- This replaces the old uniform, channel-level setting with fine-grained control based on complexity and priority
- Available in AWS commercial regions and AWS GovCloud (US-West) where Amazon Connect Customer is offered
- A useful update for managers and admins designing contact center operations
