ElastiCache Insights Arrives for ElastiCache for Valkey: A Ready-Made Dashboard!

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Wouldn't it be nice to see your cache health at a glance? That's today's news!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, Amazon ElastiCache for Valkey now has ElastiCache Insights, a pre-built Amazon CloudWatch dashboard for node-based clusters.

What changes

Cluster health, memory, compute, network, command throughput, latency, keyspace, and errors come together in one view, built on OpenTelemetry metrics that ElastiCache publishes automatically.

  • Check cache health across a Region at a glance
  • Detect when a node nears its memory, network, or connection limits
  • Filter by cluster, shard, node, or Availability Zone
  • Save a copy as the starting point for a custom dashboard

Dive Deep

With detailed monitoring, you can choose to publish metrics every 15 seconds and view them on the Metrics tab or in a custom dashboard. CloudWatch pricing for OpenTelemetry metrics applies to detailed monitoring, so keep that in mind.

To get started, do either of these:

  • Open the Metrics tab for a cluster in the ElastiCache console and choose View in ElastiCache Insights
  • Choose ElastiCache Insights under Infrastructure Monitoring in the CloudWatch console

It is available for node-based Valkey clusters in AWS Regions where CloudWatch supports OpenTelemetry metrics.

Wrap-up

  • A pre-built CloudWatch dashboard for ElastiCache for Valkey
  • Key metrics in one view, with limit warnings easy to spot
  • Detailed monitoring at 15-second intervals, billed under CloudWatch pricing
  • For node-based Valkey clusters

Great for anyone running Valkey caches who found building dashboards tedious!
