MWAA Serverless Has Finally Landed in AWS GovCloud (US)!

Hey everyone, it's me, Shiichan! Today's news is a bit understated, but it's great if you're in the target audience.

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

AWS What's New announced that Amazon Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (MWAA) Serverless is now available in AWS GovCloud (US-East) and AWS GovCloud (US-West).

Why it matters

MWAA Serverless removes the operational overhead of managing Apache Airflow infrastructure yourself, automatically provisioning and scaling compute resources on demand. You only pay for actual workflow run time, so there's no need to keep servers running around the clock. Until now, that convenience was limited to standard Regions — this update brings it to government agencies and regulated-industry workloads running in AWS GovCloud (US).

What changes

Teams that need workflow orchestration inside GovCloud can now get MWAA Serverless's automatic scaling and pay-per-use pricing without having to operate an Airflow cluster themselves. You can check the full list of supported Regions on the Amazon MWAA Serverless Regions page.

Wrap-up

  • Amazon MWAA Serverless now supports AWS GovCloud (US-East) and AWS GovCloud (US-West)
  • Automatic infrastructure provisioning, automatic scaling, and pay-per-run-time pricing carry over as-is
  • Good news for anyone who needs to orchestrate data pipelines inside GovCloud
