Three-Tier Limits for Amazon Quick: User, Role, and Account!
Hey there, it's me! I found some great news today for teams running Amazon Quick!
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
AWS's What's New announced that Amazon Quick added a limits management feature. Administrators can now cap how much index storage and agent hours each user consumes.
The story so far
Until now, administrators had no direct way to control per-user consumption. Rolling out Quick across an entire organization could lead to unexpected overage charges, and it was hard to tell whether subscription entitlements were being used efficiently across the org.
What changes
Administrators can now create "limit profiles" that cap consumption. You can scope them at:
- The user level
- The role level
- The account level
A priority hierarchy makes sure the right users get the right capacity. For example, an organization deploying Quick to thousands of users can set account-level limit profiles to establish a cost-predictable baseline, then assign higher limits to specific roles that need more agent hours.
When a user hits their limit, new consumption (like indexing content or running an agent) gets blocked, but their existing content stays intact.
Dive Deep
This feature is available on Professional and Enterprise plans, in every AWS Region where Quick's agentic capabilities are supported. Setup details are in the "Limits management" section of the Amazon Quick User Guide.
Wrap-up
- Amazon Quick added a "limits management" feature that lets admins cap per-user usage
- Limit profiles can be scoped to users, roles, or accounts, applied via a priority hierarchy
- Hitting the limit blocks new consumption but preserves existing content
- Available on Professional and Enterprise plans, in regions where Quick's agentic capabilities are supported
If you're an admin rolling out Quick at scale and want predictable costs, this update should come in handy!
