SageMaker AI Studio Now Works with IAM Identity Center Multi-Region Replication!
Hi, it's Shii-chan!
AWS What's NewToday's news is about a Region restriction on SageMaker AI Studio getting looser.
What was announced?
In AWS's What's New feed, Amazon SageMaker AI now supports IAM Identity Center (IdC) multi-region replication. You can deploy SageMaker AI Studio domains in a different Region from your IdC instance's primary Region.
The story so far
Until now, the primary IdC instance had to be in the same Region as the SageMaker AI Studio domain.
What changes
You can replicate your primary IdC instance into the Region where you want to use Studio.
- Keep the primary IdC where it is, and run Studio workloads in the Regions your compliance rules require
- Pick the domain Region to match your workforce location and data residency needs
- Keep centralized identity management and single sign-on (SSO)
Dive Deep
It's available in all standard AWS Regions where SageMaker AI Studio is supported. The announcement listed these 15:
- Asia Pacific: Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Mumbai
- Canada (Central)
- Europe: Ireland, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Stockholm
- South America (São Paulo)
- US: East (N. Virginia), East (Ohio), West (Oregon)
For setup, see the SageMaker AI documentation and the multi-Region section of the IAM Identity Center User Guide.
Wrap-up
- Studio domains can live in a different Region from the IdC primary
- Before, they had to be in the same Region
- You can meet data residency needs while keeping SSO and central identity management
- 15 Regions are supported
This is for administrators at organizations with data residency constraints who want to use SageMaker AI Studio!
