AWS Agent Registry now supports custom metadata for registry records
Hi, it's Shii-chan!
AWS What's NewWhen agents and MCP servers multiply, managing them gets hard. I found an update that helps with exactly that!
What was announced?
According to AWS What's New, AWS Agent Registry now supports custom metadata for registry records. AWS Agent Registry is the centralized, governed catalog for agents, MCP servers, agent skills, gateways, and custom resources in your organization.
The story so far
As organizations scale to hundreds of such resources, a name and description alone are not enough for governance and discovery.
What changes
You can extend every registry record with your organization's own structured fields. For example, publishers can record the following directly on each record:
- Team ownership
- Data classification
- Review status
Both people and automated systems can then find and govern resources consistently.
Dive Deep
- Schema: define common attributes once per registry, then extend with type-specific fields (for example, a model family for agent records)
- Field types: free text, a URL, a Boolean, or a choice from a list of allowed values
- Validation: the registry validates required fields and values on every record creation or update
- Search: filter results on any custom metadata field from the AWS Management Console, the AWS CLI, the AWS SDKs, or the registry's MCP endpoint
It is available in all AWS Regions where AWS Agent Registry is available:
- US East (N. Virginia)
- US West (Oregon)
- Asia Pacific (Sydney)
- Asia Pacific (Tokyo)
- Europe (Ireland)
For setup, see "Define a custom metadata schema" and "Set custom metadata values on a record" in the documentation.
Wrap-up
- Add your own structured fields to registry records
- Define the schema once and extend it per type
- Values are validated on create and update, and usable as search filters
- Available in 5 Regions, including Tokyo
This is for platform teams managing lots of agents and MCP servers!
