Which Model Is Eating Your Bedrock Bill? Cost Explorer Now Shows It!

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

If you use Bedrock, can you tell what's in your bill? Here's some help.

What was announced?

In AWS What's New, AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets, and AWS Cost Management Dashboards now support Amazon Bedrock product attributes, a new dimension for breaking down Bedrock costs.

The story so far

The announcement doesn't describe the previous state, but with this launch you get a direct view of which models and workloads drive Bedrock spend, in the billing tools you already use.

What changes

Finance and platform teams can see spend per model in the same billing tools and act on it.

The announcement suggests uses like:

  • Group a month of Bedrock spend by model to find your most expensive models
  • Build a dashboard widget that tracks cost per provider
  • Set a budget that alerts on spend for a single model

Dive Deep

The attributes

  • Model: such as Claude Sonnet 5 or Claude Haiku 4.5
  • Model provider: such as Anthropic or Cohere
  • Inference type: such as input tokens or output tokens
  • Feature: such as on-demand inference or reranker

Where you can use them

  • Cost Explorer and Dashboards: group and filter by attributes
  • Budgets: filter budgets by attributes

Combining with tags

  • With cost allocation tags on application inference profiles, projects, or workspaces, you can see which applications drive spend on each model
  • With IAM principal tags, you can see which users or roles drive it

Pricing and availability

Available at no additional charge in all AWS Regions, excluding the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions and the China (Beijing) and China (Ningxia) Regions.

Wrap-up

  • Analyze Bedrock costs by model, provider, inference type, and feature
  • Works in Cost Explorer, Budgets, and Dashboards
  • Combine with cost allocation tags and IAM principal tags for per-app and per-user views
  • No additional charge

This one is for FinOps folks and platform teams managing Bedrock spend!
