Say Goodbye to Percentage Math — AWS Billing Conductor Now Supports Custom Rates!

Hey, it's Shii-chan!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

Today's update is about AWS billing management. If you're a partner, or a company that redistributes costs across multiple accounts, this one's worth a look.

What was announced?

According to AWS's What's New, AWS Billing Conductor now supports custom rate pricing for AWS services, including custom usage tiers based on usage volume.

Customers and partners who use AWS Billing Conductor to model commercial agreements with subsidiaries, affiliates, or end customers can now use SKU-scoped pricing rules to enter a custom rate and configure usage tier thresholds directly.

The story so far

Previously, you had to calculate markups or markdowns as a percentage of AWS's public on-demand rates and predefined usage tiers, then reflect that in your pro forma billing data. Getting negotiated pricing to line up exactly through percentage math took real effort.

What changes

You can now enter an exact custom rate and configure tier breaks directly inside a SKU-scoped pricing rule. That means you no longer need to work backward from public on-demand pricing with markup or markdown percentages, negotiated pricing can go straight into your pro forma billing data.

  • Model commercial agreements with subsidiaries, affiliates, and end customers more precisely
  • Skip the percentage-based math entirely, simplifying the pricing setup
  • Get direct control over exact rates and tier breaks

Dive Deep

Custom rates and custom usage tiers via SKU-scoped pricing rules are available in all commercial AWS Regions, excluding the AWS China (Beijing) Region operated by Sinnet and the AWS China (Ningxia) Region operated by NWCD.

For setup details, check the AWS Billing Conductor product page or the User Guide.

Wrap-up

  • AWS Billing Conductor now supports custom rates and custom usage tiers via SKU-scoped pricing rules
  • Previously, pricing had to be modeled with markup/markdown percentages against public on-demand rates
  • You can now set exact negotiated rates and tier breaks directly
  • Available in all commercial AWS Regions except the two China Regions

If you're managing custom pricing for subsidiaries, partners, or end customers, this cuts down a lot of the manual math involved.
