Managed OTP verification in minutes with AWS End User Messaging Notify

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! Building OTP for logins yourself is a lot of work. Today's news makes that easier!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

In AWS What's New, AWS announced end-to-end managed one-time passcode (OTP) verification in Notify, part of AWS End User Messaging. You get a working OTP solution in under five minutes, including AWS phone numbers and code verification. There's no need to set up a phone number, register with carriers, or manage message delivery.

The story so far

Before, you generated the passcode yourself and passed it to Notify to send. You also had to build and maintain the logic to create, store, and expire codes.

What changes

Now Notify generates the code, delivers it, and verifies the code the recipient enters. You ship a complete verification flow and skip building that logic yourself.

Dive Deep

The flow is simple:

  • Set the rules once in a notify code configuration
  • You can configure the code type, length, how long it stays valid, and how many attempts a recipient gets, plus templates for each channel
  • Then one call sends a code on the channel you choose, and another checks the code the recipient enters

Delivery channels:

  • Text
  • Voice
  • WhatsApp (new)

Notify is available in all commercial AWS Regions where AWS End User Messaging is available.

Wrap-up

  • Code generation, delivery, and verification are managed
  • No phone number setup or carrier registration
  • Text, voice, and WhatsApp, with rules set in one configuration

This is for service developers who want OTP up and running fast!
