AWS Health Introduces the Version Catalog for Software Lifecycle Management
Hello, it's Shii-chan!
AWS What's NewSometimes end of support is suddenly right around the corner. This feature helps you stay ahead of it!
What was announced?
AWS What's New announced the AWS Health version catalog: a centralized source of lifecycle information for software versions across AWS services. It's available in the AWS Health Dashboard.
The story so far
AWS Health already sent account and resource-specific Planned Lifecycle Events well in advance of major version end-of-support milestones.
Those are account-specific notifications, though. A service-wide view of which versions are supported and until when had to be found separately.
What changes
The version catalog adds a service-wide view of supported versions and their timelines.
- Build upgrade schedules before an account-specific Planned Lifecycle Event arrives
- Set up governance controls
- Move to newer supported versions early
That means moving from reactive to proactive management.
Dive Deep
- Coverage: at launch, multiple services including Amazon RDS, Amazon EKS, and AWS Lambda, with more added over time
- Access: the AWS Health Dashboard
- API: customers on Business Support Plus, Enterprise Support, or Unified Operations can use the AWS Health API to integrate lifecycle data into operational workflows
- Availability: all AWS Commercial Regions
Wrap-up
- A version catalog centralizes lifecycle information for AWS service versions
- RDS, EKS, and Lambda are covered, with more to come
- View it in the Dashboard, and automate with the API on eligible support plans
- Available in all AWS Commercial Regions
This one is especially for anyone who plans version upgrades and manages end of support!
