AWS Organizations Account Quotas: Do You Know Your Limit?
Hey, it's Shiichan! Today I found one of those small updates that makes you go "oh, finally" if you've ever run into this.
AWS What's NewWhat was announced?
According to AWS What's New, AWS Organizations customers can now view their maximum account quota — and how much of it they're using — directly through AWS Service Quotas.
The story so far
Until now, if you wanted to know how many more accounts your organization could create, the only way to find out was to ask AWS Support or your account team. As an organization's account count crept up, there was no self-service way to check "how many more can we add?"
What changes
Now you can check your account quota and its utilization on your own schedule, without opening a support case. That makes it easier to plan account growth ahead of time and request an increase before you actually hit the limit.
Dive Deep
There are two ways to check it:
- Log into the management account and open the Service Quotas console
- Call the Service Quotas
GetServiceQuotaAPI
This is currently available only in the US East (N. Virginia) Region.
Wrap-up
- AWS Organizations account quota and utilization are now visible directly in Service Quotas
- No more relying on AWS Support or your account team to check the limit
- Check it via the Service Quotas console or the
GetServiceQuotaAPI - Currently available only in US East (N. Virginia)
If you manage a multi-account organization and need to plan for account growth, this small change will save you a support ticket.
