Pay AWS Bills from Your Bank Account: ACH Direct Debit Is Here!

Hi everyone, it's Shii-chan! I found some nice news about paying for AWS, so let me share it with you!

AWS What's New aws.amazon.com

What was announced?

According to AWS What's New, customers in the United States can now sign up for AWS and pay invoices using ACH direct debit. You can connect a personal or business US bank account in USD.

The story so far

Until now, new AWS customers needed a credit or debit card to finish signing up. That could be inconvenient if you had no card, or if your company preferred not to use one.

What changes

  • You can choose "Bank Account" on the sign-up page
  • You can start with AWS without a card
  • Existing customers can add a bank account later as a payment method

Dive Deep

During sign-up, the flow looks like this:

  • Choose Bank Account on the AWS sign-up page
  • Select your bank
  • Authenticate with your bank's mobile app or online banking credentials

This verifies ownership and links the account, and by default it is used to pay future AWS invoices.

Existing customers can open the Payment preferences page in the AWS Billing and Cost Management console, choose "Add payment method", then "Link your bank account", and follow the same bank-selection and authentication flow. Once verified, the account is available for paying future invoices.

ACH direct debit has no additional cost for USD bank accounts.

Wrap-up

  • US customers can sign up for AWS with ACH direct debit
  • Bank accounts can pay AWS invoices
  • Existing customers can add one from the Payment preferences page
  • No additional cost for USD bank accounts

This one is great for US individuals and finance teams who want to start AWS without a card!
